20 Reasons to start a vegetable Garden.
My motivation for starting a vegetable garden was similar to that of most gardeners. Fresh, organic, homegrown vegetables promise better tasting, healthier food and more money in the bank. Plus, growing food helps the planet by cutting down on fossil fuel use and pesticide use.
Now, after growing food for several years, I know there are so many more reasons to start a vegetable garden. And I had a feeling I wasn’t the only gardener to discover this. So, I asked my friends on the Earth & Honey Facebook page what does gardening give you besides fresh fruits and veggies?
Eighty three people answered and here’s what they had to say:
In addition to fresh, homegrown fruits and veggies, gardening gives me…
A sense of satisfaction
Relaxation
A sense of pride
Freedom
Herbal medicine
An opportunity to see and feel the beauty God made for us in nature
A natural depression buster
Escape from everyday life
Joy
Restoration
Spiritual healing
Calm
Sunshine time
Time away from computers, TVs, phones, etc.
A sense of accomplishment
A sense of security, knowing I can feed my family
A clear head of all the brain hurting problems
A teaching experience for the kids
Pure happiness
